Dear Diane,
One of the biggest issues for me during the spring cleaning season is that transition from winter-wear to spring and summer clothes. I have such a hard time organizing all the clothes I won’t need for the coming season and often the clothes I stored away at the beginning of the winter smell musty. Do you have any ideas on how to make this process easier?

Dear Jacqueline,
This can be an often ignored issue, but it’s an important step in your spring cleaning routine. I’ve got a few helpful suggestions to make sure it goes smoothly and effectively.
First of all, make sure you give all the clothes you’re storing away a good cleaning. This is true for both summer and winter clothes and can help ensure that when you bring them out of their hibernation, they’re sweet-smelling.
What I find to be most important is the way you store your clothes. Ziploc® brand Big Bags, the XXL size, are my favourite thing to pack items in because they’re made with sturdy plastic and they have handles and pleated bottoms. Plus, you can get them in a really large size (60 cm x 82 cm!), so they’re perfect for winter things.
When you’re storing your clothes, make sure you fold them nicely. Folding is ideal for things like sweaters or loose-knit items because if they are stored hanging up, they can stretch and become misshapen over time.
Finally, when you’re storing your clothes, there are four words you need to remember – clean, cool, dark and dry. Make sure that wherever you store your clothes satisfies all these requirements.
I hope these simple suggestions make storing your clothes this spring easy and effective!
Sincerely,
Diane
